Livable Wages & Affordable Childcare
As Novato Mayor (in partnership with North Bay Jobs with Justice), I helped spearhead the City’s minimum wage increase (to a level above the state minimum wage).
Supported (and contributed to) Novato’s successful Measure M, which allowed the City to provide better wages for employees.
As a Marin County Supervisor, along with my colleagues, I implemented paid parental leave for Marin County public employees.
Over a 2 year span, increased wages for In-Home Support Service (IHSS) care providers from $16.95/hr to $20.40/hr. IHSS care providers support Medi-Cal eligible aged, blind or individuals with disabilities safely in their home.
Successfully negotiated the County of Marin’s first Project Labor Agreement for the new $80M+ Marin County Fire Headquarters to ensure livable wages for workers.
Spearheaded an innovative $2M low-interest city loan so the North Bay Children’s Center could double its subsidized childcare capacity.
Thoughtful, Affordable Transportation Solutions
As a long-time SMART Board Member, I helped launch and improve the SMART Train, and championed FREE fares for youth and seniors.
As a transportation commissioner, I leveraged local dollars and tirelessly advocated for the widening of the Marin-Sonoma Narrows.
I helped ensure that both of these projects (the two largest infrastructure projects in the North Bay), were both built with union labor to make sure that projects pay living wages.
Affordable Housing
Proudly helped pass the county housing commitment, which paves the way for over 5,000 new homes in Marin.
Successfully helped to initiate and promote two Habitat for Humanity affordable housing projects.
Was successful in helping Marin Foster Care acquire two properties specifically for Transitional Age Youth housing.
Implemented a variety of creative programs to assist our unhoused neighbors, with appropriate wrap-around services; reducing the North Bay’s largest encampment by two-thirds.
Respect & Security for All
As a Marin County Supervisor, along with my colleagues, I allocated $1.5M for Legal Aid of Marin, Rapid Response Network, and other organizations assist our immigrant communities.
As President of the Board of Supervisors, I am firmly committed to opposing unlawful removals, federal overreach, and actions that undermine due process, community trust, and the rule of law.
Worked in partnership with our LGBTQ+ community leaders, was proud to raise the Pride Flag above City Hall in 2021, and honored to host the inaugural Pride Festival.
Over the years, I partnered with the former Spahr Center on harm reduction programs, MPOX vaccines, and funding issues. I am honored to have the endorsement of LGBTQ+ elected officials (both currently and formerly elected) in recognition of our partnership.

I’ll Continue to Focus on affordable solutions for North Bay families & businesses

Whether we are talking about housing, energy, food costs, childcare, health care, or basic services, our families are facing an affordability crisis, which is disproportionately impacting children and families, older adults, and our immigrant and LGBTQ+ communities. I will continue to prioritize cost impacts for residents (in particular for our most vulnerable residents) over political expedience.

More than just setting target goals,
I have prioritized tangible resiliency projects and programs to protect residents and infrastructure from fires, floods, sea level rise, and drought,
all of which are immediate and
critical issues in this district. -
As a small business owner and as a long-time local elected official, I know firsthand the importance of small businesses in our local economy, from economic opportunity to revenue generation to support municipal services. 99% of businesses in California are small businesses and are critical in supporting our local economy and job creation.

I could never have imagined having to include this as a list of priorities, but here we are. I’ve spent time with families with Trans children afraid of losing medical support (and as a father, their terror is palpable), worked closely with our Latino community leaders, and witnessed the disregard for science and basic legal structures (not to mention decency); what is happening is unconscionable. Marin, where I serve as Supervisor, has been proactive in supporting our community, and I will remain an unwavering ally and advocate for our community.
