Having grown up in the wonderful community of Novato, I am deeply honored that you have elected me to the City Council. I am thrilled to give back to a city that has given me so much over the years.

Thank you to all of the residents of Novato for your confidence in my ability to serve on the City Council. I am overwhelmed by the support I have received.

I also want to say thank you to Jeanne, Madeline, Leslie, Jerome, Eleanor and Manny – it was great getting to know each of you on the campaign trail. I have great respect for anyone who is willing to go through the rigors of a campaign.

Finally, thank you to all of my supporters who wrote letters, made phone calls, donated, walked precincts, displayed a lawn sign, hosted a meet and greet, or simply just encouraged a neighbor or co-worker to vote.

Campaigning is very hard work, but nothing compared to the 4 years ahead. Now, the real work begins. My commitment to you is to serve with integrity. Over the course of 4 years, I can guarantee there will be many times we agree, but also times when we disagree. However, in every decision I make, I will thoroughly research all sides of every issue and gather input from residents before reaching any conclusions. Most importantly, I will always listen to you and gladly welcome your comments, questions, and feedback.

Thank you again. It’s an incredible privilege to represent you on the Novato City Council.

To start, I want to tell you a little more about my background and why I’ve decided to run for the Novato City Council.

I was born and raised in Novato. I am proud to say that I am a product of our public school system having attended Novato High School. Following graduation, I went on to earn my college degree and MBA at Georgia State University before moving back home to continue my career in marketing.

I have years of experience as a small business consultant and Marketing Manager for a large restaurant franchise. Today, I work for Kimpton Hotels in San Francisco directing customer relationship management and loyalty marketing programs.

My wife Kiley also grew up in Novato and when we decided to settle down and buy our first home, the choice was simple. We both wanted to stay in Novato because we love living here so much.

Over the years, I have been actively involved in our community. Currently, I serve on the Novato Parks and Recreation Commission. I have also volunteered with the Novato Police Department and acted as a youth director and athletic coach to middle school and high school students.

I am running for City Council because I think it’s time for a new perspective and renewed energy at City Hall. I have a passion for this community and I want to be involved in shaping its future.

My priorities on the Council will be:

Developing a financially sustainable budget that ensures Novato’s long term viability

Improving our public safety levels to provide the protection our residents deserve

Repairing our infrastructure, public facilities and parks through pragmatic, fiscal decision-making.

Right now, we need leaders who will take on the tough issues facing our City. I have a strong business background that will allow me to make sound fiscal decisions. I will also work tirelessly to revive Novato’s image and bring economic vitality to our downtown.

Most importantly, I will always listen to the ideas and concerns of our fellow residents. Our City has a tremendous sense of community which can be found nowhere else in Marin. I want to preserve and build upon these values, which I believe make Novato unique.

I’m ready to bring innovative ideas and renewed energy to our local government. I believe it’s time for a new voice on the City Council and I’m prepared to provide real leadership.

It would be my honor to represent you. I humbly ask for your vote.

Last week the Novato City Council moved forward with a plan to build new city offices downtown for 60 city employees. The 21,000 square foot building will sit on an existing lot on Machin Avenue. The offices would bring city employees back to the downtown area adjacent to the police department and the newly renovated city hall. The project would also strengthen the community presence in the downtown area. However, considering the city’s long term structural deficit, it this a good fiscal decision?

Dear Friends, Family, & Residents of Novato-

As we enter the New Year, I am excited to announce my intention to run for the Novato City Council in the November election. As a native and lifelong resident of this city, I am proud to call Novato home. We live in a truly amazing community and it is my desire to see Novato thrive and continue to be an ideal place to live, work, raise a family, or retire. Utilizing my successful business background and experience serving on various boards and commissions, I will provide the leadership necessary to not only maintain, but to improve our community.

My three main goals are building a long-term sustainable budget, improving public safety, and repairing our infrastructure. To build a sustainable budget, I will take initiative to provide the fiscal oversight that Novato needs. Our city recently passed a ½ cent sales tax measure which will help us close our budget gap over the next 5 years, but we need to begin addressing solutions for the next 5 years now. Secondly, in order to improve public safety, I will aggressively pursue permanent offices for city employees that would free up $700,000 a year in lease payments that could be used to fund public safety and other city departments. Finally, to repair our infrastructure, I will think creatively and utilize our resources efficiently. For example, rather than defer maintenance of our parks and fields, Novato could replace grass fields with synthetic turf which results in long-term savings through water rebates, increased rental fees, and ultimately reduces maintenance costs. These are just a few ideas I have to put us on the path of sustainability.

Novato needs a new voice and I need your support. Vist my Meet Eric page to learn more about my background. I encourage you to Get Involved and maybe even Contribute to the campaign. You can also join my email list for News and Updates.

Thank you for visiting my site and I look forward to representing all residents of Novato on the City Council.

Sincerely,
Eric Lucan
